Insert into excluding duplicate primary keys

how can i insert data using a sql insert query into a table but skip any records that have the same primary key without the query crashing out

insert into destination

i am using sql server 2000

i seem to rememeber  piece of code that suppresed the errors so that it just continued

i have tried the not exists but i cannont get it to work, also will this slow my query by very much as sometimes i can be adding hundreds of thousands of records at a time


my code so far is:

INSERT INTO #TEMP1 (CompanyID,ContactID,Title,Initial,Surname,Position,Company,Address1,Address2,Town,County,Postcode,Tel)
SELECT COMP.ID CompanyID,ContactID,Title,Initial,Surname,Position,Company,Address1,Address2,Town,County,Postcode2 Postcode,Tel2

are you sure companyID is the key?
i think key is companyID and ContactID.

if you are sure companyID is the key, if multiple contacts exists in the same company what do you want to do?
