Trim the leading Zero from a char field.  SQL

SQL 2000.

How can I trim the leading Zero from a char field ?

I have a char(2) field, and I don't want to bring back the leading zero.  So instead of seeing 01 I just want to see 1.  How can I do this?

I'm looking for something like this, but with the correct SQL Syntax:
Select Trim('0', LetterCode) from tstatuscodeStart Free Trial
