SQL 2005 - have clients connect on one IP addresses & replication/etl/Application interfaces on another

We have a win 2k3 server along with SQL 2005 that is our CRM server.  WE have dual nics.  WE have 2 other servers that are going to interact with the CRM server.  We are considering hooking up the 2nd nics together on a separate vlan.  That way we can separate the network traffice for replication & other application interace traffic from our normal client traffic.  I am thinking that we can create a new alias specifying the 2nd IP Address.  Then any replication/application traffic would reference that alias.

Has anyone else done something similar to this?  Any gotchas that we will run into?  Will this even work?

Thanks,
