SQL Server 2000 connection problems after re-adding server to domain

Tags: connection, sql, dnetlib, server, 2000
Hi All,

We recently had a server fail and needed to use some hardware out of one of our other servers.
The server is running Windows 2003 Server SP1 and SQL Server 2000 SP3.

The problem we have is that we needed to remove and re-add the SQL server computer to the domain when we were fixing the problems with the crash and now it has broken some of our VBA connections to the server.  Nothing on the SQL server changed (I think) other than the remove and re-add to the domain.

We have a large amount of VBA for AutoCAD 2007 that writes to the SQL Server 2000 database and the connection keeps failing on the line below when they are VPN'ed in to the network.  This works from inside the network.

(the line the debugger opens on)
InitializeDatabase.Open "DRIVER={SQL Server};SERVER=" & strServer & ";UID=" & strUserID & ";PWD=" & strPassword & ";DATABASE=" & strDatabase & ""

(the error that comes up when trying to setup the ODBC connection)
I have tried to setup an ODBC connection from their site and get the message below...
Connection failed:
SQLState: '01000'
SQL Server Error: 53
[Microsoft][ODBC SQLServer Driver][DNETLIB]ConnectionOpen(Connect()).
Connection failed:
SQLState:'08001'
SQL Server Error: 17
[Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][DNETLIB]SQL Server does not exist or access denied.

If any other information is needed that I have not included or you think is relavent let me know,
Thanks in advance.

The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!
