Joining multiple tables yields incorrect answer from Query

I am trying to write a query to analyize the results of a physical inventory.

I have 3 tables as follows:
Items - a list of every part number in the database
PreInv - a list of items, lotnumbers, and qty's before inventory
PostInv - a list if items, lotnumbers, and qty's after inventory

I wrote the query below:

SELECT DISTINCT

Items.ItemNumber,
Items.ItemDescription,
PreInv.LotNumber,
ISNULL(SUM(PreInv.InventoryQuantity), 0) AS PreQty,
ISNULL(SUM(PostInv.InventoryQuantity), 0) AS PostQty,
ISNULL(SUM(PostInv.InventoryQuantity), 0) - ISNULL(SUM(PreInv.InventoryQuantity), 0) AS Diff

FROM FSDBB1.dbo.FSE_Item AS Items
LEFT JOIN PreInvInventory AS PreInv ON Items.ItemKey = PreInv.ItemKey
LEFT JOIN PostInvInventory AS PostInv ON Items.ItemKey = PostInv.ItemKey

GROUP BY
Items.ItemNumber,
Items.ItemDescription,
PreInv.LotNumber

ORDER BY

ABS (ISNULL(SUM(PreInv.InventoryQuantity), 0) - ISNULL(SUM(PostInv.InventoryQuantity), 0)) DESC

The problem with this query is that the join results in inflated quantities because all the lotnumber & qty combinations from the pre inventory table join with all the lot number and qty combinations of the post inventory table.

If I modify the query by eliminating one of the left joins (and the fields from that table) I get the correct answer for the remaining table, but joining both the Pre & Post inventory tables doesn't work.

How would I write this query to give the correct answer ?
