The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Range calculation in MS SQL

I am trying to get a range of values based on what the user enters

So i have a calendar table (tblCalendar)
dt
m
w

Preference the date range 07/01/2007 - 06/30/2008 is preset

I have a form where user enters a week range
From week 25 to week 38

I can easily do this by using SELECT * FROM dbo.tblCalendar WHERE w >= userFrom AND w<= userTo

however if the user enters 37 to 05 - its does not get any values .

I know the range logic is not correct but here;s what here I want it show
Start at week 37 (which falls in 2007) and loop and end at week 05 (2008)

I am using this to get sales qty totals which are stored in database by week

Please advise

ok, now I wrote dynamic sql to achieve this, but how do I get the output of dynamic sql into a variable that I can use in a where clause

DECLARE @intFromWeek INT
DECLARE @intToWeek INT

SET @intFromWeek =27
SET @intToWeeK = 26

DECLARE @strSQL NVARCHAR(4000)

      SET @strSQL = 'SELECT intNumber FROM dbo.tblUsysNumbers WHERE intNumber <= ''53'' AND'
      SET @strSQL = @strSQL + ' intNumber >=''' + CONVERT(VARCHAR,@intFromWeek) + ''''
IF @intToWeek > @intFromWeek
BEGIN
      SET @strSQL = @strSQL + ' AND intNumber <=''' + CONVERT(VARCHAR,@intToWeek) + ''''
END
IF @intToWeek < @intFromWeek
BEGIN
      SET @strSQL = @strSQL + ' AND intNumber <= ''53'''
      SET @strSQL = @strSQL + ' UNION ALL'
      SET @strSQL = @strSQL + ' SELECT intNumber FROM dbo.tblUsysNumbers WHERE intNumber <= ''53'' AND'
      SET @strSQL = @strSQL + ' intNumber >= ''1'' AND intNumber <= ''' + CONVERT(VARCHAR,@intToWeek) + ''''
END

EXEC sp_executesql @strSQL

SELECT * FROM tblSalesHistory WHERE strWeek IN  <<Number from dynamic sql>>

D'OH, sorry, I messed up the WHERE conditions, please try this:

WHERE w >= userFrom AND w <= CASE WHEN userTo < userFrom THEN 53 ELSE userTo END
    OR (userTo < userFrom AND w <= userTo)
