Yes, it is started. It also has Auto-start service when OS starts. But I did stop and start the server and it is still not working.

On the Test SQL Server the trigger runs just fine but on the production server I am getter the error message New transaction cannot enlist in the specified transaction coordinator. I have read something about the MSDTC service not running, but it is running on the production server. What else could I look for? Thank you for your help

If it runs on Test sever but not on production ther3 has to be a difference in the settings, environments, permissions, etc. Is not possible to tell from here. Try to replicate all these on prod and then run again. Recreate the linked server on prod.
On test does it actually update the table on the linked server?

Look in Services for the MSDTC (distributed transaction coordinator)...make sure it is started
