microsoft, sql server, databases 2000, dates left outer join

i have the following date fields from two tables

table a                                                 table b
1900-01-01 07:00:00.000                   1900-01-01 15:00:00.000

how can i ensure i only run the join against the date vallues (yyyy-mm-dd) and not all ie (yyyy-mm-dd hh:mm:ss)
