Store procedure optimization

Experts i have a store procedure, that takes about 35 minutes in my production environment to delete and then insert back about 400,000 rows. This procedure runs every 2 hours and eats up lot of CPU while running and basically stops anything else on the server.
This procedure selects data from about 25 tables and then inserts them into a table from which we are running reports.This table has 196 columns. Then there are about 150 update statements that update the table. There are about 400,000 records that i am talking about which get inserted into the reporting table and updated as well.
Please let me know how can i make it easy for you experts to get the down time on the server as much as possible.Data in my table is not very heavy or XML. Just simple data types.
