The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Calculating Grand Total by week from Individual Totals by week
Tags: Microsoft, T-SQL
I have a query that essentially says, ' give me the count of orders by week by agent.  It returns the following:

Week                  Agent               Order Count
1                         Joe                    4
1                         Fred                  5
2                         Joe                    3
2                         Fred                  1

What I'm looking for is to add a total row by week, so I can put it all on one line chart:

Week                  Agent               Order Count
1                         Joe                    4
1                         Fred                  5
1                         Total                  9
2                         Joe                    3
2                         Fred                  1
2                         Total                  4

Any help would be appreciated - I can post the SQL if you would like to see it, but didn't want to muddy up the waters if I didn't have to.

Hi Chap,

Thanks for the quick response.  I'm running into all kinds of parsing issues and reporting services added all kinds of suffixes (_1) to my table names, but in general, doesn't the union query need to select the same fields from both tables in order for it to work?

Anyway, I tried just using the first select statement to isolate the issues and this is what I get back:

Expr1           Expr2           ordercount
week           Agent               4
week           Agent               5
week           Agent               3
week           Agent               1

I must be missing something...

Yes, a union does.....but my query returns the same # of columns

why don't you do this, run your query and put the results into a temp table.  Then, run the queries above off of your temp table.  you can use select * into #temptable from yourquery syntax.

I am not at all familiar with temp tables (but am not opposed to using them).  A temp table is only used for the duration of the query, correct?  I don't want to end up creating a bunch of temp tables on the server and getting the server admin all worked up about it.

Right, after the connection is closed, the temp table will be cleaned up.

I will give it a shot - I have to go to a meeting right now, but will let you know how I make out, thanks Chap!

OK....

Creating a temp table worked like a charm - I would have hoped to have a less complex query, but I'll take it!  Thanks Chap!
