We are looking at creating a contacts database, now we have elements of this already on Excel and Access. In the future we will want further development of this database to include other elements of our business. But in the short term we will be just looking at the contacts element.
Now we were going to look at using an online solution, using MySQL and PHP various offices need access to it. But my boss has now told me that letters created from the database will need to be merged or sent via email.
So if we went for an online solution would ASP.NET/MS SQL be a better solution as I presume interaction with MS products is better?
And further to that, a ASP.NET/MS SQL (we have a VPN) database on our main server rather than a web based solution?
Finally is there a cost with MS SQL? IF there is where do I find the licence costs?
