SQl Server Standard Edition CPU limitation

Asked by master_windu in MS SQL Server, Computer CPU Processors, SQL Server 2005

we have the option of ordering a Dell 2950 server with (1) quad core xeon processor or (2) quad core xeon processors.

My question is, Microsoft SQL standard edition is limited to 4 CPUs.  Does this mean that it will only use 4 of the 8 cores?  or is the limitation in reference to physical CPUs?
