How to restore SQL where logs were not backed up at the same time as data

I am backing up using Shadowprotect imaging backup and the data and logs are on different drives. I back up the data drive every two hours. I can do the same for the logs drive or just once a day. I usually have them on the same drive. It occurs to me that they will never be backed up "at the same time". If I do have the logs when I need to restore how much does the time difference between the two matter? How close do they need to be? When I did a test restore I realized that I did not have the logs backed up. Can the database be restored without the log file? The logs are on a separate drive for speed but the system is fast enough that I assume that transactions are almost always current into the database. Start Free Trial
