Hello all,
I recently found the need to upgrade from SQL2000 to SQL2005. I need the ability to run some stored procedures; options which are not available with SQL2000. I would ultimately like to upgrade my current SQL2000 installation to SQL2005.
The server in which SQL2000 is running, is a Dell Poweredge 2800 running W2K server with all applicable patches and updates. The configuration is very standard and nothing out of the ordinary has been implemented.
With the above said, I'm not sure if I should install SQL2005 alongside SQL2000 or physically upgrade the SQL2000 install. Does anybody have any recommendations? On a test server here, I installed SQL2005 alongside SQL2000 and everything seems to work fine. I would like to get rid of SQL2000 and it looks like SQL2005 is dependent upon SQL2000 being installed. When I upgrade on my production server, I would like to not rely on the SQL2000 installation.
Thanks for all of your help and thoughts,
Mike
