The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

SQL 2000 Maintenance Plans no longer execute - owner of job no longer has access error

Asked by bd9000 in MS SQL Server, Windows Network Security

Tags: Microsoft, SQL Server 2000

I have a SQL Server maintenance plan (a couple of them, actually), that, just recently, stopped running (saying the owner no longer has access).
Here's the error message:
Event Type:      Warning
Event Source:      SQLAgent$COMMPROC
Event Category:      Job Engine
Event ID:      208
Date:            9/25/2008
Time:            8:00:01 PM
User:            N/A
Computer:      SUPERMICRO
Description:
SQL Server Scheduled Job 'DB Backup Job for DB Maintenance Plan 'UserDBdailymaintenanceplan2'' (0xF238DD93503E714AB32882CEF8D04040) - Status: Failed - Invoked on: 2008-09-25 20:00:01 - Message: The job failed.  The owner () of job DB Backup Job for DB Maintenance Plan 'UserDBdailymaintenanceplan2' does not have server access.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

The owner is BUILTIN\Administrators which has full access to every single database on the system (incl the 4 system dbs).
In an attempt to further ensure complete access, I ensured the following:
All server roles are checked.
Each database has explicitly specified the BUILTIN\Administrators as the owner.

The maintenance plans have been working just fine until 2 weeks ago (the 12th of Sept), when they simply stopped.
Nothing has changed on the server except on the 8th (when some Windows updates were loaded - but backups continued for 4 days after that)

I can manually backup the databases with no problem. (so it can't be a permission problem, right?)

Attached, is the last successful run log (I noticed that the maintenance plan won't even save a log anymore, just a message in the Windows 2003 Server event application log)
(note: the backup is only 150MB, hence the 3 seconds to back it up on 15KRPM SCSI drives w/a QuadCore Xeon)

I'm completely at a loss here.
