The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Another hierarchy  query (Sql Server/php)

Asked by akashj in MS SQL Server, Scripting Languages

Hi all,
Another query regarding hierarchy... I have done something similar but only via hard-coding the information directly in the page as the data is static...however, in this case, the data is dynamic from a Microsoft SQL server database.
Bear with me while I TRY and explain how this works!

The query is :

1 table... Holds data in the following way:

Dept, director, manager, assistant_manager, staff

It would start with the Dept, and ending with the staff

It could be in the following format:
Dept > director > manager(s) > assistant manager(s) > staff_members(s)

For Example:

HR > John > Harry > Ben   > staff, staff, staff
                 > Tim     > Fiona > staff, staff
Support > Wendy > Karl  > Rob
                             > Philip
Etc... and notice how things go left to right rather than top to bottom (in a typical organisation chart)

There are 30+ departments and the table in total consists of 122000 + rows - they all get updated - for instance, someone could start, someone could leave, names could change etc

What would the easiest way to address this to display in the format above (left to right) with the information always being live?
I have found many threads about hierarchy trees but none that really seem to be like my query - It may be and I might have completely missed the point of them so I do apologise in advance if this is the case.
PHP is fine and is preferable if possible... it would be talking to a SQL 2005 database (Microsoft)

Hope I have been as informative as I could but please feel free to ask for further information.

Also fairly new to this so I hope the points are enough - if I have mis-understood the point system do let me know!
