SQL Select records where the datetime > something

I'm trying to retrieve records from a table that have a timestamp greater than the last time I looked.

I have a table with a varchar field called 'ActionTime' with the data and time in the format: 08/01/2009 11:57:44 AM
I have a vb app that I want to query all the records newer than a certain time.

I've tried the following queries:
Select * from My_Logs Where ActionTime > #08/01/2009 12:08:44 PM#
Select * from My_Logs Where ActionTime > '08/01/2009 12:08:44 PM'

SQL gives me incorrect syntax near 12.

Is it possible to return records with a greater date/time? If so how?
