Help converting SQL getDate to Julian date

I have a table that contains a field called "starting_date". This date is a Julian date number stored as an Integer.

I need a query that returns only the rows that match the current date.

SELECT * FROM myTable WHERE starting_date = getDate?

But the starting_date is the Julian date number.

So the getDate() function automatically converts the julian date?

The starting_date field contains Julian date numbers.

For example, today (01/14/2009) would be 2454846.

If it helps, I was given this function that converts FROM a julian date to a standard date.

dateadd(dd,  (starting_date-2415021), convert(datetime, '1900-01-01',103))

It works fine for converting from the julian to a standard date.

I just need the reverse now for the current date.

Hmm. It runs ok without error, but I'm not getting any row matches for today. Where I should get at least one.

I'm wondering if the extra "time" information is causing the miss-match.

If I run this:

SELECT DATEADD(dd, starting_date - 2415021, CONVERT(datetime, '1900-01-01', 103)) AS Expr1
FROM myTable

I'll get results like this:

2009-01-14 00:00:00:000

When the getDate() is returning something like this:

2009-01-14 10:12:34:043

Does this make sense?

WHERE starting_date = datediff(day, 0, getdate()) + 2415021

If possible, avoid using a function on the table column(s) in a WHERE clause: using a func prevents an index from being considered and lowers performance.
