The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Get all records from one table, and only matching records in related table based on a filter in the related table

I am stuck on something that i thought was simple.  I would like to have SQL code to retrieve all records in one table (TblEmployees) and if there are matching records in another table (TblReservationDetails), to list them.  I need to always have at least one record for the employee table though.  Simple, i thought...Left Outer Join.  No problem there, but when i then added a filter to the TblReservationDetails, only employees with reservations that matched the criteria showed up, or employees that never had a reservation in the tblreservationdetail table.  Employees that had reservations but not for that particular criteria didnt show up.  Of course i added the is null, but that is why i got employees with no reservations at all.  How can i get the employees to show up that are in the tblemployees table, and also have had reservation that dont match my criteria and therefor their reservaiton info shouldnt show up, but their info should.  I have included a simplified version of the SQL as well as an example below:

Example of what i want:

Employee Table
SSN:
000112222
111223333
222334444

ReservationDetail Table
SSN           DateStart
000112222 02/01/2009
000112222 02/07/2009
000112222 02/08/2009
222334444 01/01/2008

What i get is:
000112222 02/07/2009
000112222 02/08/2009
111223333 NULL

What i would like:
000112222 02/07/2009
000112222 02/08/2009
111223333 NULL
222334444 NULL

Assume todays date is 02/05/2009

3:
SELECT tblEmployees.SSN, TblReservationDetail.DateStart
FROM tblEmployees LEFT OUTER JOIN TblReservationDetail ON tblEmployees.SSN = TblReservationDetail.SSN
WHERE (TblReservationDetail.DateStart > GETDATE()) OR (TblReservationDetail.DateStart IS NULL)
