Question

Search match

Asked by: pigmentarts

I need my search to be more intelligent.

the line....
"OR  P.description LIKE '%' + @keyword + '%'"

does not really work for me. I need it to match words not the phrase in keywords i,e, word1 + word2
also as an added bonus I want it to only match words bigger than 3 letters.

is this possible? any examples?

Thanks

Have you consider using full text indexes?

Have a look at this link as starting point:

hi ralmada,

yes we use a system in another version of the website however dont have the option with this site and I hear it has a huge performance impact on the server.

I am sure there is something like contains?

by: pigmentartsPosted on 2009-08-05 at 08:07:32ID: 25024277

i tired....

 AND  CONTAINS (P.description,@keyword)

and I get

Msg 7601, Level 16, State 2, Procedure usp_SearchProducts, Line 18
Cannot use a CONTAINS or FREETEXT predicate on table or indexed view 'Products' because it is not full-text indexed.

by: pigmentartsPosted on 2009-08-05 at 08:09:41ID: 25024306

is there a find or match?

by: ralmadaPosted on 2009-08-05 at 08:11:55ID: 25024341

>> I am sure there is something like contains? << Actually the CONTAINS functionality is part of the Full text search architecture that I've suggested above.

You might want to try doing this manually, but it will be overly complicated and I would say that the perfomance issues will be more visible than using Full text search.

by: ralmadaPosted on 2009-08-05 at 08:15:21ID: 25024385

>>Cannot use a CONTAINS or FREETEXT predicate on table or indexed view 'Products' because it is not full-text indexed.<<

First you have to enable FT indexes on that database and define a FT catalog on the table.

See this link on how to configure it.
