Browse All TopicsHello experts,
I have a table with a column whose datatype is DECIMAL(15,4).
I need to be able to select from this table, and change the decimal precision on the fly. If the value is greater than one, I should display only two decimal places. If the value is less than one, I should show all four decimal places.
I cannot get this to work. I keep getting all four decimals places regardless of my CASE statement. Here is my query:
SELECT Loccvg_Bldg_Ded = CASE WHEN lcv.loccvg_bldg_ded >= 1 THEN CONVERT(DECIMAL(13,2),ROUN
ELSE CONVERT(DECIMAL(13,4),lcv.
FROM TabA lcv
Could you tell me how I can do this??
Thank you. It's very urgent so I would so appreciate a quick response. :)

Hello rss2,
The problem is that all the data in a particular column of your result set has to take the same data type.
In your case, SQL Server is implicitly converting the data types so they all match.
What you could do is use CAST or CONVERT to make all the results [n][var][char], in which case you
would be able to control the decimal places on a case by case basis, but then your results would be
strings and not numbers.

Patrick
