SSIS - Saving DataSet From Script Task To Variable

Hello All,

building off the example given here http://sqlblog.com/blogs/andy_leonard/archive/2007/10/14/ssis-design-pattern-read-a-dataset-from-variable-in-a-script-task.aspx?CommentPosted=true#commentmessage

I would like to alter the datatable created in the script, and then save that to a variable for consumption by a later script task. I just don't know how to reverse the oleDA.Fill(dt, Dts.Variables("dsVar").Value) call writing a datatable to variable of type object.

I've included the example package

I have a simple sql task that runs a select statement

select top 10 column_name, data_type, character_maximum_length from information_schema.columns

for example.

this is returned to the result set and stored in a variable of object type.

That variable is then read in a subsequent script task. as outlined below.
this example code pulls a datatable out of the recordset and then iterates through it, displaying info to show you it's working via msgbox.

using this kind of logic, how could i Alter that table, save it to another variable as a record set presumably and use that variable in future script tasks.

            For Each col In dt.Columns
                sMsg = sMsg & col.ColumnName & ": " & row(col.Ordinal).ToString & vbCrLf
            Next
            MsgBox(sMsg)
            sMsg = ""
        Next
