update identity increment column

Hi,
i have a table contains record1 which is primary key and identity increment starting from 1 and seed by 1.
my table contains records starts from 1 to 3151 record.

i need to update my table to change record1 starts from 1 to starts from 6000, to get my table record count 6000 to 9151

i hope i explained my need..

replace table_name by you table name.

UPDATE table_name SET record1 = record1 + 6000;

You can perform custom insertion to the identity column the IDENTITY column you first have to set
SET IDENTITY_INSERT <table> ON
you cannot UPDATE the value of an IDENTITY column. You will have to copy the data into a new row with a new custom value and delete the old one.

you cannot "update" the values of an identity field.
you HAVE to re-insert the rows with the nw values, and delete the original ones.

use SET IDENTITY_INSERT syntax to allow identity values to the "force"
use DBCC CHECKIDENT syntax to set a new identity seed after this "update"
