The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

temp DB and Data drives

Asked by yrcdba7 in MS SQL Server

Expert,

I have 3 questions:
Q1: is that ok if we do not use Raid 10 for tempdb due to no enough space to hold som many drives (4disks). we only use one drive without raid10 for tempdb. is this way will effect performance for runining quries or run anything related with tempdb?

Q2. my data drives configuration is
E:\ data (primary) 4 disks  Raid 10
F:\data (primary)  2 disks raid 10 ( HP SAS can have raid 10 using 2 disks)
G:\data (secondary) 2 disks raid 10

also due to no enough space to hold many drives, I have cut drives from 2 to 1,
that means only keep E:\  data drive for entire db
I know it will effect performance than 3 drives and increase IO ( we have this problem currently), one data drive for read write. it will keep drive busy for all of request in one drive.
is that possible if using fiber controller for this one drive, it will have the same performance as three seperate drives for entire data?

Q3. HP has the raid 10 SAS 2 disks and raid 10 SAS 4 disks.  Is that same fast for read/write with 2 disks and 4 disks in raid 10?  From what I know Raid 10 at least 4 disks.

thanks
