The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Help in building a subquery

Asked by Mehram in MS SQL Server

Consider the following query which works correctly

        select      top 1
                    s.timein
                   ,diff_seconds = min(abs(datediff(s,convert(datetime,'1969/06/19' +
                                           ' ' + '19:52:25'),convert(datetime,'1969/06/19' + ' ' + s.timein))))
                  from      employee e
                  join      emp_schedule es        on (es.dept_code = e.section_code and es.company_code = e.company_code)
                  join      emp_schedule_det esd on (es.trans_no = esd.trans_no    and es.company_code = esd.company_code and esd.card_code = e.card_code)
                  join      schedules s              on (s.schedule_code = es.schedule_code)
                  where ( e.card_code = '2553')
                  group by e.card_code
                  , s.timein
                  , s.timeout
                  order by 2

Result

timein      diff_seconds
20:00:00      455

In the above query '19:52:25' is constant.  This (the different times) has to come from a table say temp_2553

For that I am trying

select
t.timein
              ,(select x.timein
                    from
                    (
                    select      top 1
                    s.timein
                   ,diff_seconds = min(abs(datediff(s,convert(datetime,'1969/06/19' +
                                           ' ' + t.timein),convert(datetime,'1969/06/19' + ' ' + s.timein))))
                  from      employee e
                  join      emp_schedule es        on (es.dept_code = e.section_code and es.company_code = e.company_code)
                  join      emp_schedule_det esd on (es.trans_no = esd.trans_no    and es.company_code = esd.company_code and esd.card_code = e.card_code)
                  join      schedules s              on (s.schedule_code = es.schedule_code)
                  where ( e.card_code = '2553')
                  group by e.card_code
                  , s.timein
                  , s.timeout
                  order by 2
                  )x
                  )
from temp_2553 t

There is this error.
Multiple columns are specified in an aggregated expression containing an
outer reference. If an expression being aggregated contains an outer reference,
then that outer reference must be the only column referenced in the expression.

What is the problem.

I would further elaborate what the query is doing in comment area.
