Ocassional timeout on login on SQL Server 2000 with a named instance

Asked by fischermx in MS SQL Server

So, I recently reinstalled SQL Server 2000 in a server that was already working.
The reason I made this was because it is going to have more instance, but it doesn't have one.
No hardware was changed, nothing in the server. The server is always very low on CPU and network usage.

Now, when I try to login either using "SQL Query Analyzer 2000" or "MSSMS 2005", or a Delphi application we run against it, then randomly it just times out during login.
Then, I try again, 5 seconds later, and then it works!

I don't see any reason for this to happen, the only new is that is now running in a named, non-default, instance.

Could be that the reason?
How do I fix it?
