Responding to "Why is my transaction log growing" and other "trivial" issues.

Experts, we (as in all of us) have a problem.  SQL server is being treated as a desktop application instead of a piece of the enterprise that needs expert knowledge and attention.  All too often SQL server comes into a business and becomes the responsibility of the abused network admin solely because it runs on a Microsoft platform.  From there the SQL server doesn't get the tuning or the maintenance it needs and all of a sudden SQL server is an inferior product.  Part of this ironically comes from it's ease of use and setup.  Oracle is much more difficult to setup and maintain.  Consequently it seems much more likely to get a dedicated DBA.

Part of this falls to awareness I think.  Microsoft has the responsibilty of educating big business IT managers.  They need to understand that with some of these products, the concepts will quickly become more important than the software.  Examples would be RDBMS, edge security, and even high end web and mail servers.  In otherwords at some point, they'll need somebody that understands the fundamentals and that it's not fair nor responsible to push this down to a net admin just because it runs on his platform.

I think the rest falls to the community - us, bloggers, etc.  Microsofts ease of use is what gives us time to concentrate on the challenging problems so I don't want to change a thing there.  But do we start answering questions with a more "RTFM" mentality?  Do we preface every answer to simple questions with a reminder of what SQL server is?  I'm interested to hear some expert responses.  I'll award points to the 2 or 3 top contributors.  This post was inspired by acperkins offtopic remarks here: https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/25099463/SQL-Server-Locking-Issues.html
