The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

How do I join SQL TABLES without a linked server in ColdFusion?

Asked by traport in SQL Query Syntax, Cold Fusion Markup Language, MS SQL Server

I am trying to join tables from two different databases that I can not link. (I just have to work with what I have, I'm afraid.)

This is an example of what I'm trying to do (and it truly is just a sample - my sql statements are much longer so forgive me if there are errors):

First query (query1) gets information from the table tblCustomer:

<cfquery name="query1" datasource="datasource1">
	SELECT id, order_id, name FROM tblCustomer
	LEFT OUTER JOIN tblCustomersDesc
	        ON id = customer_id
	WHERE name = #name#
</cfquery>

*** IF THE RECORD OR RECORDS ARE THERE, THEN MOVE ON TO STEP 2 ***

Then based on the id result(s) from query1, I want to loop through this query to obtain information from query2 and the table tblOrders

<cfif query1.recordset neq 0>

	<cfloop query="query1">

		<cfquery name="query2" datasource="datasource2">

		SELECT order_id, orderDescription FROM tblOrders
		WHERE order_id = #query1.order_id#

		</cfquery>

	</cfloop>

<cfelse>

	No results

</cfif>

For my output I would like to get out of this loop and perhaps do a query of a query of some sort or something that would just give me one dump of information w/o too much complication.

I tried this:

<cfquery name="main_search" dbtype="query" maxrows="250">
	SELECT *
	FROM query2
	WHERE 1 = 1
</cfquery>

and it didn't appear to give me the correct results. Any input would be greatly appreciate. I have to got to optimize this data b/c there's ~50,000 records. I just don't know the best way to go about this.
