The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Business Objects, Crystal Reports, Developer's Edition V11.0.0.1282, Dynamic parameter handling in Crystal with an associated Oracle Stored Procedure

I hope you can help us as we have a deadline coming up shortly and a technical issue with Crystal Reports XI Developers Edition Version 11.0.0.1282 is holding us up.

We have encountered a technical issue in writing a report where a dynamic parameter requires populating a list of choices from a database table.

The report has an associated Oracle Package with a PL/SQL procedure definition that indicates that 5 parameters are to be received by the procedure.

For one of the 5 parameters (defined as a string in the procedure), we want to intercede and have Crystal's dynamic parameter feature provide the users with a drop down list of choices from a database table and then pass that value to the procedure.

On version 11.0.0.1282 which is the latest version your software says is available (via the "Check for Updates" menu option), the issue is present. However, one new team member is temporarily using the 30 day trial of Crystal Report XI V 11.5.8.826 and the issue does not appear.

The issue appears to revolve around the sequence of steps by which Crystal interfaces with the stored procedure to present and resolve parameters. Inside Crystal Reports XI (Developer Edition) we try to change one of the parameters expected by the procedure to be a dynamic parameter pointing it to a table in the application's database as its data source. When we run the report, it initially brings up the parameter dialog screen where the parameter in question is prompted without the drop down choices available. However, if we attempt to pass invalid values for 1 or more parameters and press "Ok" then the parameter dialog screen re-appears with the drop down control displayed.

It would seem simple to simply update all of our software to the same version, but cannot find out how to do so without reverting our software to a trial status.

After looking for a long time on the Business Object website, I finally found a 1-800 number for support in Canada - it doesn't even ring into a working line.

Please advise as soon as possible as to how we can resolve either the technical issue with V 11.0.0.1282 or how we can update all of our software to the latest version of Crystal Reports XI Developer Edition. Even if resolved by the latter approach, we are concerned whether the version available on the client's Business Objects Enterprise server will be compatible with the version we are using for development.

Thanks,
Dale
