SQL2005 Server Attack on an SBS2003 server

Asked by AndyKeen in SQL Server 2005, MS SQL Server, SBS Small Business Server

Tags: server, sql, 2005

We have recently installed SQL 2005 on our clients SBS2003 server.

SInce doing so we get thousands of the following error messages in app log.

FAILURE AUDIT: Login failed for user 'admin'. The user is not associated with a trusted SQL Server connection. [CLIENT: 82.201.138.4]

Obviously someone is trying to hack the system and the only way at the moment I can stop this is to stop the SQL SERVER service.

Do I need to applay an account lockout policy on the server or is there anything else I can do...

Thanks
Andy
