The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

.NET 2.0 SQL Server 2005 SQLDataSource: use or reuse by multiple pages in an application?

Asked by BryanSir in SQL Server 2005, Programming for ASP.NET, .NET Framework 2.x

I am using asp.net 2.0 with sql server 2005 database and trying to use a sqldatasource control.  My question regards whether a sqldatasource can be used by multiple pages.  For example, I have a department dropdownlist that is populated by the sqldatasource "dsDept".  I have identical department dropdownlists on multiple pages of my application.  Is there a way to define the sqldatasource once and use it for all dropdownlists?  Seeing as how it is a control on a page, it doesn't seem that it can be referenced necessarily outside that page.  I've looked into trying to cache the data and referring to that data from the cache, but it appears that the cache data is not accessible by other objects.  In fact, I read that I could use database notification of invalidation to refresh the cache if I were using sql server 2005.  When I attempted to do that, I got a message that notification is only available in sql server 9.0.  I looked at my version, and the number is 8.00.2039, although it is still sql server 2005.  I've never seen any mention of this difference and couldn't find anything searching for the error message I received.  Anyone have any input on this?Start Free Trial
