The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Reporting Services - table sum problem

Asked by avdvyver in SQL Server 2005, SQL Reporting

Hi,

I have a problem with summing a table in SQL 2005 Reporting Services. The data as per below:

Office      Total Cost      Dept      Individual cost
Office 1
      10500      HR      1200
      10500      Sales      1600
      10500      IT      1800
                  4600
                  43.81

Office 2      12000      HR      1500
      12000      Sales      1250
      12000      IT      7000
                  9750
                  81.25
As you can see, the above table lists the total cost per office and then breaks it down into the HR, Sales and IT depts. The costs of these three depts are then summed and calculated as a percentage of the total cost. My problem comes in when trying to calculate the grand total and percentage. The summing of the Individual cost works fine, but the summing of the total cost is incorrect. It does not sum the total value per office, it sums every value in the column (the total should be 10500+12000 but the report calculates it as 10500*3 + 12000*3). Unfortunately I can't fix this on a query level because of the data structure and I've tried grouping etc. in the report but I still get the same result. I need to do a sort of "sum first total cost value per office". Any ideas on how to this this report? Thanks!
