Upgrade a 2000 DB to 2005 DB

I have a MSDE 2000 DB which I want to upgrade to EXP2005 because the MSDE machine is no longer working and don't want to go to the expense of repairing it.  I've got the DBs on an external hard drive.  When I go to attach the 2000 to 2005, it says it can't upgrade the DB because the 2000 is read-only and I have to alter the database.  As the 2000 machine is broke, I can't do this.  If I instal 2000 on the 2005 db, it messes up the OS and whats more I'm using Vista.  Can anyone help me upgrade the 2000 to 2005?Start Free Trial
