The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

SSIS foreach loop

Tags: ssis, loop, foreach
This question is regarding SSIS:

I am trying to loop through a directory of directories that contain directories which contain files. i.e:
C:\databases\client1\client1.mdb
C:\databases\client2\client2.mdb
C:\databases\client3\client3.mdb

Does anyone know how to do this?  I was thinking a foreach loop, but I don't know how to create the collection.

Thanks for the response.  I agree that the FILE enumerator is a great addition.  However, my problem is that I first have to itterate over directories.

Referencing the example above:
C:\databases\client1\client1.mdb
C:\databases\client2\client2.mdb
C:\databases\client3\client3.mdb

The base directory is c:\databases, which contains sub-directories Client1, Client2, Client3....  Then in each subdirecotry, there is one file <parentDirName>.mdb, eg. Client1.mdb.

I can't see how to do this with the file enumerator....

so add a for each file unumerator with a for each file enumerator embedded into it.  One inside the other
You will have to set two variables...one for each looping control.

the filename of the directory (which is the client1, client2, etc...) and the actual name of the file (client1.mdb, etc...)

ie nest them

10.24.2007 at 09:06AM PDT, ID: 20140158
Good Idea, but the control is a FILE enumerator, and I don't think that it will give me back directories (The outter loop)

10.24.2007 at 11:30AM PDT, ID: 20141612
Anyone else have a suggestion?

Foreach From Variable Enumerator - applies enumeration to the content of a variable, which represents an object or collection that is enumerable.  (ie folder name) (outer loop)

or

Foreach From Variable Enumerator - applies enumeration to the content of a variable, which represents an object or collection that is enumerable.

or

(inner loop)Foreach File Enumerator - evaluates the number of iterations based on the number of files residing in the same folder. It is possible to specify additional conditions that will further refine your selection, such as inclusion of subfolders or filtering based on the file extension or match on any part of file name. Standard wildcard characters, such as the asterisk (designating any combination of characters) and the question mark (designating a single character) can also be used.

Good Luck to you, sorry to waste your time...are you familiar with your options in regards to "For Loop container "?
it doesn't matter have a good one.

sorry here is the other or

Foreach Item Enumerator - allows you to specify explicitly the items belonging to the collection to be enumerated.

10.24.2007 at 12:03PM PDT, ID: 20141923
How do I populate the variable or Itemlist  for the outer "Foreach"?  I need to do this dynamically...

10.24.2007 at 12:08PM PDT, ID: 20141954
The outer variable would be the list of directories...

I just need a way to get a listing of DIRECTORIES  NOT   Fiiles in a directory so that I can populate a collection object.

Can anyone tell me how to get a list of just the directories?

Addressing your original question, does the 'traverse subfolders' tick box help at all (in the FOR EACH FILE enumerator)?

I assume if you gave it C:\databases as the root, and ticked 'traverse subfolders', it would go down into subfolders?

11.26.2007 at 05:49AM PST, ID: 20349746
i suppose there would be a problem if there is any files with similar extension that you do not what to import in folder above:

C:\databases\someOtherFile.mdb

how can one ensure that only records under C:\databases\client_\ will be imported?

I think there is another tick box which indicates the full path can be returned. You can inspect that path for C:\databases\client_
