Question

Cannot start sql 2005 service service anymore

Asked by: MaximusMeridus

When trying to start the SQL 2005 server service I get

"the sql server service on the local computer started and then stopped. some services stop automatically if they have no work to do..."

I installed the sql 2005 server a few days ago on a windows 2003 server and it worked perfectly, then all of a sudden the service stopped and I cannot start it again, even after a reboot.

Would really appreciate some help.

What do the Windows event logs show?

by: ptjcbPosted on 2008-01-23 at 08:37:31ID: 20724799

Is an account assigned to the service. Check

Administrative Tools > Services > SQL Server > Properties > Log on.

If there is an account, check the password to be sure it is correct.

You may be using an evaluation copy and the evaluation period is past. Check the error log at:

C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL.1\MSSQL\LOG

This is the default location.

What is the error message?

Checkout dependencies for this Services in your services tab... THere are some services required for SQL SERVER which have not started...

Regards,

dduser

There are no dependancies and the trial is valid for 6 months and I only installed it 4 days ago so surely can't be that.

Here is the sql error log attached

Check what network protocols are enabled for SQL Server in the SQL Configuration Manager application.

If the VIA protocol is enabled, then disable it. Start the SQL Server service again.

by: MaximusMeridusPosted on 2008-01-23 at 08:54:58ID: 31424232

Brilliant!!! Thanks it worked when I disable VIA!
