The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

SQL Reporting Services - Parameter to SQL Code

Asked by AptDev in SQL Server 2005, Visual Studio

Tags: ,

I've to got a report in SQL Reporting Services 2005.  I need to put a parameter into SQL code.

My user wants to run the report for two categories:

1. Only Engineering
2. Everything BUT engineering.

My parameter is a drop down list.  When I got to Main Menu -> Report -> Report Parameters, in my "available values" I set it to "non queried" and typed the following:

LABEL                                               VALUE
--------------------------------              -----------
Engineering Only                              %ENG%
Everything But Engineering              %<here where I'm not sure what to put>

In my code I say:
WHERE category like @Param

I can get "all categories including engineering" or limit them to "only engineering"

But I'm having difficulty figuring out how to use the same parameter to get everything but engineering at the same time.

What I want to say is:
If @Param = "ENG" use the LIKE '%ENG%' operator
if @Param = "NONENG" use the NOT LIKE '%ENG%' operator

But I'm not sure how to do that in the SQL statement.

I could work around the problem by creating two reports, naming them "Engineering Report" and "NON Engineering Report" and just get rid of the parameter altogether.

But I'd really like to learn if there is some other way this can be done, with only one report.

Is there an SRS expert who can direct me to learning my next level of parameter knowledge?
