Some SQL Server 2005 databases are not honouring their retention window set in their maintenance plans,  This is causing disk space to be fully utilized and critical backups failing.  Please assist.

My company has some SQL Server 2005 databases that reside on a 2-node active/active Windows 2003 Enterprise Edition(SP2) cluster.

The retention window for the full backups within the maintenance plans is 7 days.  This retention period is not being met and their exists backups that still reside on disk for weeks.  Could someone please assist me in the resolution of this problem as it is causing some other critical backups to fail because of little to no free disk space.

Please assist.
