Setting maximum length for a VarChar parameter of a stored procedure

I am running a stored procedure with a VarChar as parameter. when i run the SP it gives me the error

execute Sp_Insert  "2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;2;4;4;4;9;9;7;7;7;9;9;9;9;9;"

This is despite the fact that i have made the  parameter varchar(8000)
