Question

GEt the actual date for any week day in the current week. For example whats the date of the next monday.

Asked by: susan1978

A have a purchasing application written in classic asp. I need to add a feature where the user could put in which day a vendor makes its deliveries. THe use of this would be while they are creating a purchase order the system would notify the user which day the vendor is going to deliver the order and save a record to the database with the date (07/28/08). SO i need to know how to convert the word thursday into the date of the closest thursday from today. So how do i convert the word thursday into 7/31/2008 or wendsday into 7/30/2008. Can this be done in classic asp or in sql through stored procedures?

this article is great it allows me to put in a 1 for monday and it will give me the date of monday whici is yesterday. since today is tuesday monday has already passed so this would not work. I would like a function that if i passed monday or the number 1 on a tuesday it will return the date of the following monday. for example if i ran it today on july 29th and asked for monday  it should give me august 4th

susan1978,

If you want a way in ASP to do this  then try the snippet below.  You need to provide the weekday you want as a number (1-7, 1 = Sunday) and a valid date.  The function could be modified to use the week day name or do other checking but will find the next day you specify.

Let me know if you have any questions or need more information.

I'm glad I could help.  Did that completely answer your question or did you need more help?  I noticed the B grade and was very confused by it.  Let me know if it was a mistake or you had some thing else on this you needed.  I can help correct a mistake or I can provide more help on this.  If it was the answer you needed then the grade isn't apporpriate (see http://www.experts-exchange.com/help.jsp#hi97).  It can't get more detailed than the exact code you need to do what you asked. :)

Thanks for the fun question but please respond about the grade.

I realize I misread part of your post or left it out.  I have added a function and code to handle it so you can provide the name of the weekday.  It will recognize that and use it to know what next day to find.  Sorry.  I hope it helps.
