The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Unable to alter view using sp_addscriptexec

Asked by infinitisys23 in SQL Server 2005

I am setting up a SQL 2005 publication database with a mix of 2000 and 2005 subscribers.  I am using Merge replication.  When I attempt to apply a script to the subscription database using sp_addscriptexec, it works on the 2000 subscriptions but not the 2005 ones.

Here is the command that I execute:
EXEC sp_addscriptExec
      @Publication='publicationname''
      , @ScriptFile='\\servername\REPLScripts\scriptname.sql'
      , @SkipError=1

scriptname.sql is a simple ALTER VIEW statement which attempts to alter a view that is being replicated.  It is in a share in which everyone has full control.

If I set @SkipError=1 then I get the error:
"Failed to apply the script 'scriptname.sql' using the 'sqlcmd' utility."
In the Log File viewer, it also logs the following: "The transaction ended in the trigger. The batch has been aborted."

If I set @SkipError=0 then I get the error:
The schema script 'scriptname.sql' could not be propagated to the subscriber. (Source: MSSQL_REPL, Error number: MSSQL_REPL-2147201001)

Some of the 2005 subscription databases are remote, others are in the same server instance so I know that the sql script is available.

On the SQL Server 2005 Subscription and Publication databases, I have set the compatibility level back and forth between SQL2000 (80) and SQL2005 (90) using every conceivable combination.

Can anyone help me on this?

Thanks in advance,
