Thanks, I see how that gives me the new id's for all the new records. How can I use those to update the child records?
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsI have two sql server tables Parent/child that are used as a temporary workspace.
After the temp processing is done I need to copy this data to the "final" tables. The tables I am inserting into have the same structure and relationships. The problem I am having is inserting the parent data into the "final" table and then adding the child data to the "final" child data table. Since the final data tables use an autoincrement primary key I need to be able to insert the parent rows and get the new id and then insert the child rows with that new id.
Any suggestions on how to do this?

create table #temp (id identity )
insert into ParentTable
OUTPUT inserted.id into #Temp
SELECT ....
FROM @tempTable
Now the newly inserted id will be there in the #temp table,
