How do I copy all data from one SQL 2005 database to another database on the same server?

Everytime I use the export / import wizard I get errors when trying to copy all data from one DB to another DB on the same server.  I do not want to do a backup and restore as it will over write my scripts.  Just want to copy the data in all tables.

Import / Export wizrd does not keep primary key information - so can be a bt of a disaster for structure. You could use an insert script as mentioned - or you could restore a fresh backup into a new database.


1.      Backup existing database to a file (e:\data backup\copyover.bak)
2.      Right click on Databases à Choose restore database  à select your backup file (copyover.bak)
3.      Type in new name for new database to be restored(DevClubNewlands) and choose appropriate settings (e:- drive for datafiles etc)
4.      sort out login permissions for the new database
