running a query using sqlcmd:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/
t-sql backup database:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/
to backup to a network UNC path, you have to make sure your sql server service runs under a domain account (that has write permissions to that unc folder), otherwise it won't be able to run the backup
