Question

Sql select statment not pulling correct records

Below is my seelct statement and what it pulls for information,  but the only information I want it to pull is the taskid, dtNotification, dtCompletetask where dtCompleted is NULL, intElevated is either a NULL or a 1 dtCompletedTask is less than todays date and the intfilter is = 32
It should only pull 26 records but is currently pulling 44 records, its pulling other filters besides 32.

	intElevated 
from	tblPermTask 
where	dtCompleted IS NULL and 
	intElevated IS NULL or 
	intElevated = 1 and 
	dtCompleteTask < getdate() and 
	intFilterId = 32

maybe put parentheses around the OR elements?

That error was caused by the OR statement, used withouth parenthesis.

Try this:

Select      intTaskId,      dtNotification, dtCompleteTask,
from      tblPermTask
where      dtCompleted IS NULL and
      (intElevated IS NULL or
      intElevated = 1) and
      dtCompleteTask < getdate() and
      intFilterId = 32

When you want to do the OR independently of the other items in the where clause, you have to surround it with parenthesis so that it is evaluated as a whole and not with the rest of the statement.  The OR you have, without them, would return any row where that is true, whether or not the first items in the list matched.

Select	intTaskId, intFilterId, dtNotification, dtCompleteTask, intElevated 
 
from	tblPermTask 
 
where dtCompleted IS NULL and (intElevated IS NULL or intElevated = 1) and dtCompleteTask < getdate() and intFilterId = 32
