Question

New to VMware Workstaion 7

Hi,

I have virtual machine created o aVMware workstation 7. How can I establish a connecting to a SQL Server located on the hosted computer or network?
I setup security on the host network so the user on the virtual machine can have access to all share resources on it, but I can seam to figure out how to connect to the sql server.

You need to set the VM NIC to use bridge

It's already setup this way, as the default. actually I was able to access the SQL Servers on the network side using the sa account to connect, but not the SQL Express runing on  a workstation, where my test DB is. This VM machine is on the sames workgroup name as the domain but not in the domain of the host computer.  I know,  I should just install SQL on the VM machine as my test environment, but since I'm just learning, it would be nice to know how to cross access resources between VMs and host environment

I know, but only to an sql instance located on a workstation.

Are you able to ping the host from VM? If you can then its not connection issue but configuration issue

It was my fault not checking permission on the SQL Express running on the client computer.
