DBCC SHRINKFILE('DatabaseName_L
Is that something that's safe for me to do on a production box? Are there any gotchas I should be aware of?
Main Topics
Browse All TopicsWe have a production database on SQL 2008 set up in full recovery that is mirrored to another sql server. When this database was switched from simple to full mode to support the mirror no one bothered setting up transaction log backups for the database and it quickly grew to nearly 100GB. We have since set up transaction log backups and have the file down to 36GB, but that is still extremely large considering the size of the data file, only 3.5GB. Since setting up transaction log backups every half hour the log file is typically 99% free.
How should I go about reducing the size of the log file without doing any harm? Can I do it without breaking the mirror?
