cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types

I am trying to extract data from one database and load it into another using SSIS.

I have created an OLE DB Source and Linked it to an OLE DB destination.

I have checked the mapping is good. However, I get the following message.

Column "U_CODE" cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types

The column type in the source table is varchar and the column type in the destination table is nvarchar.

You need to make both columns the same data type, OR, you can place a Data Conversion task between the Source and Destination in your Data Flow and change the source column to DT-WSTR.

I chanegd the column type to match.

Now that they have been changed this has created another problem.

The problem is:
The column type of a source table is nvarchar and the column type of a destination table is varchar.

Do i select DT-WSTR in data conversion in this cas as well?

No, just do one or the other. I only use a Data Conversion task when I don't want to change the database.

WSTR = nvarchar

STR = varchar

I am a bit pushed for time. So I made a SQL VIEW of the table and cast the column type there.

I know that you method is right, but it just wont work here.

I'll try and revisit the problem later.
