The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

I haven't tried this combination myself, but if you're experiencing problems have you thought of adding an IN clause to your SELECT INTO query:

    INSERT INTO YourSQLServerTable (YourField1, YourField2, YourField3)
    SELECT YourField1, YourField2, YourField3
    FROM YourAccessTable
    IN "C:\Temp\YourAccessDatabase.mdb"

... or even to your INSERT INTO query!  :-)

vadimrapp1D,

With an ADP, you can only have one data source and it is the SQL DB you are attached too. You can do VB ADO connections, but not link in other tables.

epicazo,

if your sql server is on remote computer, you can't link tables - see http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access/HP030893711033.aspx

But maybe you don't have to link. If your mdb database is not going to change, then you can import the table into your sql server table. Let me know if this works for you, and if you don't know how to do it, I will show.

jimpen,

>> see http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/access/HP030893711033.aspx

Let me re-phrase that slightly then,

If you have a typical front-end ADP on a workstation, you can't link in other sources.

Better? ;-)

depends on how you measure, plus how you define "typical" - generally, it's still wrong.

Here is the error I get when I try to link MDB database.

I also tried with " " but convets to [ ]

SELECT     field1, field2
FROM         [Tbl_name] IN [e:\folder1\msaccesstdb.mdb]

UNABLE TO PARSE...:  INCORRECT SYNTAX NEAR KEYWORK IN

I don't have access to SQL Server (no pun intended!), but this is the kind of thing I had in mind:

Download file and rename to SampleDatabase.zip before opening!

You need to put both mdb's into a folder called C:\Temp\ExpertsExchange, then open YourSQLServerDatabase.mdb (which I used to emulate your SQL Server database) and finally run the qryAddRecords query.
