The Solution Rating System

With so many solutions, how can you tell which solutions are most likely to help you and which ones are not? To provide you with a tool to use, we rate our solutions based on various elements that most accurately determine if a solution is a quality solution. To explain what factors affect the solution rating, here are the elements we take into consideration when formulating our solution rating.

  • The Grade of the Solution
  • The Zone Rank of the Expert Providing the Solution
  • The Number of Author and Expert Comments
  • The Number of Experts Contributing
  • The Feedback of the Community

Your Input Matters
Because of the way the system is set up, the most important variable in this equation is you. As a member of Experts Exchange, you are able to cast your vote on the quality of the solutions in regard to how complete, accurate, helpful and easy to understand each solution is. When you provide your feedback, each rating is adjusted accordingly. So, if you see a solution that has a poor rating that you think is a good solution, let us know by rating it. As you do, the rating will be adjusted and will become more accurate for other members of our site.

If you have any suggestions that you would like to make for our rating system, please ask a question in the Suggestions Zone of Community Support.

Thank you!

Systemdb changes to Default after running Access 2007

Asked by apklatoz in Access Architecture/Design, Microsoft Access Database

Tags: , , ,

I am working on a project to convert all of our Access 97 database to Access 2007 with a backend of SQL 2005.  The Access 97 databases are secured with a System.MDA workgroup file and need to remain that way through the migration period.  It appears that when both Access 2007 and Access 97 are installed on the same workstation the Registry Key [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\8.0\Access\Jet\3.5\Engines]:SystemDB changes from our network SYSTEM.MDA to the default SYSTEM.MDW on the local machine everytime Access 97 is ran AFTER Access 2007 has been run.  Access 2007 does not seem to change the key but apparently it sets a flag that causes Access 97 to change it the next time it runs.  I have cleared the msaccess.srg file so I know it is not that.

I realize that I can put the workgroup file in the shortcuts that start Access 97 but I really would like to find a way that when a user clicks on a .MDB file it still opens Access 97 with the proper System.MDA regardless.

Basically I want Access 2007 to only open accdb files and Access 97 to open mdb files and be totally unaware of each other.

Any help and insight is appreciated.Start Free Trial
