How to automate renaming XLS tab to match newfile name.

I have a series of about 400 XLS files that need to be imported into Access. The XLS file names (and therefore tab names) have varying dates.

For example:
OBJECT10_2009-10.xls
OBJECT10_2009-11.xls
OBJECT11_2009-10.xls
OBJECT11_2009-11.xls

Inside Access I have setup linked tables and import queries. My thought is to rename all of the "OBJECT10" xls files to be OBJECT10.xls and import the data. The problem is the tab inside the XLS remains "OBJECT10_2009-10" rather than being renamed to "OBJECT10".

I need each file and tab in turn to be identical for the import query to work.

I can go into each file and rename the tab when I rename the file - but I'm hoping there's a faster, easier way to do what I'm trying to accomplish.

Any thoughts?
